“The national executive of the party and the parliamentary party have jointly authorised me to take a decision on the withdrawal of support which I will take soon,” said the BSP chief at a crowded press conference. “I will take an appropriate decision at an opportune moment after due deliberation and considering all aspects of the issue and the decision shall be soon made known to you,” added Mayawati.

When asked the cause for deferring her decision on support to the UPA, Mayawati said, “I need some time. On 15 September, after the UPA government announced permit to FDI in retail, I had announced to hold a rally in Lucknow on 9 October and till yesterday all of us were busy in the rally.” She further added, “Today all the party leaders placed their views before the national executive and now it’s my responsibility to take a suitable decision after due diligence. I want to assure that I won’t take much time and the decision will be soon before you.”

The BSP supremo at a party rally in the state capital on Tuesday had lambasted the UPA government for adopting anti-people policies, holding it responsible for rising inflation and corruption. The former UP chief minister reiterated that in her political assessment, the Parliament elections could take place any time and asserted that her party was prepared for it. ''My party will do well to balance the power at the Centre,'' she said.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party national spokesperson Ram Gopal Yadav reacting to the BSP’s decision, said, “What more did you expect from the BSP? This decision was already known to everybody. In fact, Mayawati will never take any categorical decision and keep the matter pending till the next elections.”
